Head of Reference and Government Documents Librarian

Description: The L. Mendel Rivers Library at Charleston Southern University has an immediate opening for a Head of Reference and Government Documents Librarian.

Qualifications: ALA accredited master’s degree required. Demonstrated knowledge of print and online resources, including Federal publications; knowledge of current trends in higher education and in academic libraries; ability to work collaboratively with library and faculty colleagues and with the larger academic community; effective written and oral communication skills; strong customer service orientation. Progressively responsible academic library experience, including Reference and Government Documents, required.

Responsibilities: The Head of Reference and Government Documents offers both traditional and innovative reference services to CSU’s constituents, assists in the selection and organization of information resources, provides oversight of a small selective Federal Depository, conducts bibliographic instruction, supervises one full-time employee, and provides direction for the departments. This 12-month, non-tenure track position carries faculty rank.

ENGLISH

Description: Charleston Southern University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in English with evidence of excellence in teaching and potential for scholarly activity; we are seeking Rhet/Comp writing specialists. Applicants with secondary education and NCATE experience will receive preference.

Responsibilities: Teaching assignments may include freshman composition and sophomore literature courses with occasional upper-level courses; additionally, faculty are called upon to participate in academic advising, serve on committees and fulfill other obligations.

BIOCHEMISTRY

Description: Charleston Southern University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biochemistry.

Responsibilities: Teach 24 semester hours per academic year to include a two semester biochemistry sequence, develop an active and challenging undergraduate research program, follow university policies related to instruction, attend and participate in departmental and university functions and serve on committees as required, teaching experience and experience in supervising undergraduate research (including grant writing) is desirable.

Qualifications: ALA accredited masters’ degree required. Demonstrated knowledge of print and online resources, knowledge of current trends in information literacy, libraries, and higher education, customer service orientation, ability to work collaboratively with other librarians and faculty across campus, effective written and spoken communication skills required. Academic library experience, teaching experience preferred, reference experience preferred.
