MyCSU has been designed and is being developed for your “one stop” Internet location to access the Charleston Southern University information you use in your relationship with CSU.
Technical explanation An intranet is a private computer network that uses Internet protocols and network connectivity to securely share part of Charleston Southern University’s information or operations with its faculty, staff, students, parents and community. You should find yourself familiar with the operations of MyCSU because the same concepts and technologies of the Internet such as clients and servers running on the Internet protocol suite are used to build an intranet. HTTP and other Internet protocols are commonly used as well, especially FTP and e-mail. Briefly, an intranet can be understood as "a private version of the Internet", or as a version of the Internet confined to an organization. Common explanation MyCSU is your electronic office, dorm room, or meeting hall accessible to just the CSU family over the Internet. The system progresses with you as your roles change such as from a student concerned with grades and courses to alumni concerned with staying in touch with classmates, reunions and homecomings.
MyCSU grants you access to the information that is appropriate and meaningful to you. This is termed as functionality. Functionality changes depending on your viewpoint or “role”. An example of this is grades, the professor is interested in entering the grades into a gradebook, while the student is interested in viewing the grade book. MyCSU interprets what you are interested in by identifying your role based on your CSU ID number during the login process. The following is a list of the most common functions available. More functions will be added over time depending on your needs, comments, and requests.
