Internship Locations

 Students in the Department of Behavioral Sciences have worked in a wide variety of agencies all over the Lowcountry since 1996. Placement sites have included the following:

Callen-Lacy Center for Children: Serves as an emergency shelter for children from infancy through adolescence

Charleston County Department of Juvenile Justice 

Coastal Center: Services individuals with severe disabilities and special needs

Department of Social Services, Adoption Services

Department of Social Services, Adult Protective Services

Dorchester Children’s Center: Serves children who are victims of sexual abuse

Dorchester Department of Juvenile Justice

Horizon House: A school program for children removed from public school

211 Hotline: A community hotline and referral service     

Kennedy Center: A treatment program for chemically addicted adolescents and adults

Life Point: A program serving families who choose to donate the organs of a loved one                        

Lowcountry Children's Center: Serves children who are victims of sexual abuse

Lowcountry Crisis Pregnancy Center: A Christian ministry serving pregnant women and their infants

Lowcountry Food Bank

My Sister's House: The shelter for women who have suffered domestic violence and their children

9th Circuit Solicitor's Office

9th Judicial Court, Juvenile Arbitration

Odyssey Health Care: A hospice care provider

Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health: An inpatient facility for adults and adolescents suffering a variety of mental illnesses

People Against Rape: Services victims of sexual assault throughout the tri-county area

Pointe North Church: Located in Moncks Corner, SC

Project HopeStart : An organization serving homeless women and their children

Social Security Administration

Summerville Police Department, Victims Advocate Office

Winwood Farm: A residential program for children with behavior disorders

Many of these placements continue to be active internship sites. Possible sites are always changing due to varying needs at the agencies.  When making an application for an internship, students are asked to indicate a variety of populations they are interested in working with. Department faculty then work to place students at appropriate locations. If a student has an interest in working at a particular agency not listed above or a population not indicated on the application form, they are asked to contact the Internship Coordinator, Dr. Susan Styles at 863-7137 or sstyles@csuniv.edu.
