Academic OneFile How to Cite Electronic Resources Need Help? There are several options for research assistance, including the Ask a Librarian email service and the CSU Chat instant message service Off Campus Access to most of the resources listed on this page is restricted to the currently registered students, faculty, and staff of Charleston Southern University because of licensing and subscription agreements with the database or index providers. Databases and Journals Find journal, magazine, and newspaper articles by searching one or more of the CSU Library's databases and indexes. Some databases include the fulltext of the article, others list only the citation, or the citation plus abstract. Some databases, like Britannica Online or Oxford English Dictionary are electronic resources but do not index journal articles at all. Databases by Title If you know the database you wish to use, select it from the alphabetical title list. Databases by Subject If you need help selecting a database, use the subject list Journals by Title If you already have a journal title or citation, either from an outside source or from a database which does not have the fulltext of the article, use the Journals by Title service to find out whether the CSU Library subscribes to the journal in print, microform, or electronic format. Hint: If you are using a database which does not have the fulltext of the article you need, open Journals by Title in a new browser window or tab so you can easily switch between the page with the citation and the page which will help you locate the journal Request an Article If the CSU Library does not have a journal article you need, you may request a copy through InterLibrary Loan. While it does not contain full-text access to materials, some citations are linked to online full-text documents. The database covers materials in all formats and periods, including printed works from as far back as the 15th century. ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials Indexes journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion and includes full-text from ATLA's online collection of major religion and theology journals. It includes more than 416,000 article citations from more than 1,500 journals (571 currently indexed), more than 210,000 essay citations from over 15,700 multi-author works, and more than 432,000 book review citations. Book Review Digest Plus (H.W. Wilson on EBSCOhost) Provides book reviews on a wide range of topics, from a variety of sources, with many of the reviews from serious, academic works. Includes reviews of books for adults, young adults, and children. Book Review Index Online Plus A comprehensive online guide to book reviews that includes more than five million review citations from thousands of publications, with linking to more than 630,000 full-text reviews. This readers' advisory resource for fiction and nonfiction provides genre lists, plot summaries, author information, award lists, book jacket images, and book reviews from more than 30 sources. User-friendly tools allow users to store reading and search lists, create reviews and ratings, and graphically view search term relationships. Britannica Online Contains the well-respected Encyclopaedia Britannica with over 73,000 short and book-length articles on every subject. Business and Company Resource Center with PROMT and Newsletters Offers topical business information and company and industry intelligence on thousands of global companies. It provides business, company, and industry content in the following areas: periodical articles, news articles, and press releases; detailed information for domestic and international companies and associations including information on corporate hierarchical structures; company financials and earning estimates; investment reports; corporate chronologies and company histories; brands and product information; industry and company rankings; market share data; industry overviews; and HR law case digests. Business Source Premier (EBSCOHost) Provides full text for more than 8,800 serials, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Business Source Premier contains all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Business Source Premier Enhanced Searching Interface (EBSCOHost) The enhanced interface includes a browse function for industry profile (overview and market value), company profile (Datamonitor report), country report (economic and political background), and market research report (market insight and emerging trends).

The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals. EBSCO eBook Collection A collection of over 21,000 electronic books available in full text online. These titles may be searched in the library's catalog or directly in the EBSCO database. Formerly known as NetLibrary, titles in this collection cover all subject areas. EBSCOhost (all databases) Provides access to a title list of all journal databases published by EBSCOhost, such as Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, ATLA Religion, ERIC, MLA International Bibliography, PsycINFO, and many more. Multiple EBSCOhost databases can be searched simultaneously by checking the boxes next to the database names on the list. Education Full Text (H.W. Wilson on EBSCOhost) Provides full text of articles from over 350 journals as far back as 1996, and indexing of more than 770 periodicals dating back to 1983. Content includes in-depth coverage of special education and more than 100,000 controlled and cross-referenced names of educational tests. Subject coverage includes adult education, multicultural/ethnic education, teaching methods and much more. Educator's Reference Complete A selection of full-text academic journals, full-text reports, and reference sources. Focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education. Majority of the full-text titles included are also found in the ERIC database. Updated daily. e-Duke Journals Scholarly Collection: Expanded Provides online access to journal titles published by Duke University Press. Subjects include the Humanities and Social Sciences. The number of titles in the collection is expected to grow from year to year. All of the journals are also accessible by title through the library's Journals by Title webpage. Enciclopedia Universal en Español (from Encyclopedia Britannica) A comprehensive encyclopedia in the Spanish language published by Encyclopedia Britannica. It contains over 47,000 articles, 8,300 photos and images, 65,000 dictionary entries, a world atlas, timelines for general, art, and cultural history, and more. Encyclopedia of Literature (Merriam-Webster's) This encyclopedia from Merrian-Webster is incuded on a separate tab from within Literature Resource Center and features more than 10,000 descriptive entries on literary figures, works, and terms. Environmental Health Information Service (Not available from off campus. See Reference Librarian for on campus use) ERIC (FREE database from the U.S. Dept. of Education) ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) provides free access to more than 1.2 million bibliographic records of journal articles and other education-related materials and, if available, includes links to full text. Note that most documents that are not available online can be accessed in the microfiche cabinets. ERIC (EBSCOHost) This subscription service from EBSCOhost provides access to education literature and resources included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. The database contains more than 1,194,000 records and links to more than 100,000 full-text documents from ERIC. Essay and General Literature Index (H.W. Wilson on EBSCOhost) A unique reference database that cites records contained in collections of essays and miscellaneous works published in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. More than 320 single and multi-authored volumes are indexed annually with more than 20 selected annuals and serial publications. Focuses on the humanities and social sciences, with subject coverage ranging from economics, political science, and history to criticism of literary works, drama, and film. ETS TestLink (Educational Testing Services) FREE Collected from the early 1900s to the present the Test Collection at ETS is a library of more than 25,000 tests and other measurement devices. European Views of the Americas: 1493-1750 Covering European works relating to the Americas, this database contains more than 32,000 entries and is a comprehensive guide to printed records about the Americas written in Europe before 1750. It covers the history of European exploration as well as portrayals of native American peoples. A wide range of subject areas are covered; from natural disasters to disease outbreaks and slavery. The database was adapted from the bibliography European Americana: A Chronological Guide to Works Printed In Europe Relating to The Americas, 1493-1750, co-developed by John Alden and Dennis Landis, Curator of European Books at The John Carter Brown Library. FirstSearch (OCLC) (all databases) Provides access to a title list of all databases published by OCLC, such as BasicBIOSIS, EconLit, WorldCat, and more. The information provided on this site is the official, published version and the information retrieved from GPO Access can be used without restriction, unless specifically noted. Search for government documents in each of the three branches - legislative, executive, and judicial or by using the US Government Publications Catalog Search. GPO Monthly Catalog (OCLC FirstSearch) Produced by the U.S. Government Printing Office, this index uses the familiar OCLC FirstSearch interface to help you locate all types of U.S. government documents, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records, judiciary materials, and documents issued by executive departments (Defense, State, Labor, Office of the President, etc.). It covers dcouments published from 1976 to present. Grove Music Online This compendium of music scholarship offers the full texts of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the New Grove Dictionary of Opera, and the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz. It includes 50,000 signed articles and 28,000 biographies contributed by over 6,000 scholars from around the world on all aspects of music. Grove Music Online is now part of Oxford Music Online, which also includes the Oxford Dictionary of Music and the Oxford Companion to Music. It includes the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, up-to-date reference materials, full-text magazines, journals, and pamphlets from a wide variety of authoritative medical sources, and health and medical videos. Additionally descriptions of and links to several pertinent Web sites, selected for their usefulness and appropriateness are among the resources in Health & Wellness Resource Center. Modules for Health and Wellness Resource Center offer additional specialized information segments. The Alternative Health module looks at health care from a holistic lens. The Disease Profiler module offers an empirical, statistical complement to the disease information in HWRC. Health Reference Center Academic (InfoTrac) A multi-source database that provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus a wide variety of personal health information sources. The journals archived in JSTOR span many disciplines. Because of JSTOR's archival mission, there is a gap, typically from 1 to 5 years, between the most recently published journal issue and the back issues available in JSTOR. Junior Edition (InfoTrac) A periodical database designed for students in junior high and middle school which provides access to a variety of indexed and full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more. Liebert Online An authoritative database continaing peer-reviewed journals in the most promising areas of biotechnology, biomedical research/life sciences, clinical medicine and surgery, and law. Literary-Historical Timeline This literary timeline is incuded on a separate tab from within Literature Resource Center and allows you to target a specific date range for literary figures, movements, and historical events. The Literary Timeline Search offers a sociological, cultural, and historical context alongside literary reference. It provides you with a sense of events that took place in an author's life and/or the period in which a work was published, helping to make interdisciplinary connections. Literary Index FREE An index for Gale literature publication materials. This includes Twentieth Century Literary Criticism, Children's Literature Review, Nonfiction Classics for Students, and many more. MAS Ultra School Edition (EBSCOHost) A database designed specifically for high school libraries that contains full text for more than 700 popular, high school magazines. MEDLINE (EBSCOHost) An authoritative medical information database for medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, etc. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree, tree hierarchy, subheadings and explosion capabilities to search citations from over 4,800 current biomedical journals. Mental Measurements Yearbook (EBSCOHost) Provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. It contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. Military & Government Collection (EBSCOHost) A database for current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government. It provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals and indexing and abstracts for nearly 400 titles. MLA Directory of Periodicals (EBSCOHost) Offers detailed information on over 7,100 journals, with 4,400 currently indexed in MLA International Bibliography. The detailed entries include editorial contact information, as well as frequency, circulation, subscription prices and submission guidelines. MLA International Bibliography (EBSCOHost) Offers a detailed bibliography of journal articles, books and dissertations. Produced by the Modern Language Association, the electronic version of the bibliography dates back to the 1920s and contains over 1.8 million citations from more than 4,400 journals & series and 1,000 book publishers. Wilson on EBSCOhost) Indexes over 30,000 plays written from Antiquity to the present and published from 1949 to the present. Covers a wide range of plays written in or translated into English, including mysteries, pageants, plays in verse, puppet performances, radio and television plays, and classic drama. Search for plays by title, author, subject, style, genre, or cast type. Provides the full publication details needed to locate the play in its published manifestations. Primary Search (EBSCOHost) Provides full text for nearly 70 popular magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). ProceedingsFirst (OCLC FirstSearch) This resource produced by OCLC indexes published proceedings which were received by the British Library Document Supply Centre. It includes over 192,000 records from congresses, symposia, exhibitions, and workshops held worldwide from 1993 to present. ProQuest Digital Microfilm: New York Times This resource provides cover-to-cover full image access to the New York Times from 2008 to three months ago for an online experience that resembles paging through the newspaper in print or viewing it on microfilm. Users may crop, zoom, or rotate page images and then print, email, or save in PDF format. In addition, the library provides access to selected full text of the New York Times from 1985 to the present in several other databases, keeps the last 8 weeks of the newspaper in paper format, and has 1851 to 2009 on microfilm. Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCOHost) Searches nearly 575 full text publications, including nearly 550 peer-reviewed titles. It covers topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods. PsycARTICLES (EBSCOHost) Contains full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. The database includes more than 45,000 articles from 57 journals - 46 published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and 11 from allied organizations. It includes all journal articles, letters to the editor and errata from each journal. PsycBOOKS (EBSCOHost) A database of more than 16,000 chapters in PDF from over 1,000 books published by APA and other publishers. The database includes most scholarly titles published by APA from copyright years 1953 - present. It also includes 100 out-of-print books and a total of more than 400 classic books of landmark historical impact in psychology. PsycINFO (EBSCOHost) Contains nearly 2.3 million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as the 1800s. 97 percent of the covered material is peer-reviewed. SIRS provides relevant, credible, full text information on social issues, science, history, government, the arts and humanities. Small Business Resource Center Search this database to learn how to start, finance or manage your small business. Resources include sample business plans, how to guides, articles and websites. SocINDEX with Full Text (EBSCOHost) A sociological research database that features more than 1,660,000 records with contains full text for 344 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895, and 129 "priority" coverage journals. This database also includes full text for more than 700 books and monographs, and full text for 6,800 conference papers. Southern Baptist Periodical Index A cumulative index to around 50 periodicals issued each year by historically Southern Baptist Convention-related agencies, institutions, and associations at the national level of organization. Subjects includes theology, Baptist history and practice, worship, church music, church administration and development, religious education and ministry, Baptist colleges/universities/seminaries, missions and missions education, family life and parenting, and Christian life. State of the Nation (SOTN) contains information on the direction of the U.S. economy through a repository of economic indicators on topics such as employment, wholesale and retail prices, monetary and housing trends, gross domestic product, etc. Global Business Opportunities (GLOBUS) & the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB) contain information on overseas buyers discovered by U.S. officials in the field.
