Filling in the financial gap for your education

Student loans can help fill the gap between the cost of attendance and the amounts received through scholarships and grants. These funds will need to be repaid, so we strongly advise you to only borrow the amount you actually need.

Subsidized loans are awarded to students who demonstrated federal need based on Expected Family Contribution from the FAFSA. U.S. Government pays the interest while student is in school. Unsubsidized loans are awarded if need has been met. Students have the option of paying interest while in enrolled in school, or student can choose to defer it. Amount of Award:

Yearly Limits: $5,500/year Freshmen, $6,500/year Sophomores, $7,500/year Juniors and Seniors.

Lifetime Limits: up to $23,000 can be subsidized loan funding pending federal need eligibility; Overall limit is up to $31,000 combined for subsidized and unsubsidized funding.

How to Apply: Submit FAFSA. Available October 1. Student also need to accept award their award Financial Aid Live and complete the Entrance Loan Counseling and Master Promissory Note.

Renewal Policy: Submit FAFSA annually. Available October 1. Subject to federal need, maximum yearly limits, maximum lifetime limits, etc.

Yearly Limits: $20,500

Lifetime Limits: $138,500. Federal student loans borrowed as an undergraduate student applies to this limit.

Parents of dependent undergraduate student. Approval is based on credit. May require a credit-worthy cosigner. If Parent PLUS Loan is denied, dependent student is eligible for an additional direct unsubsidized loan. If student is a freshman/sophomore the student can receive $4000 in additional direct unsubsidized loan funding. Amount of Award: Cost of attendance minus other financial aid. Subject to credit approval.

How to Apply: Submit FAFSA, submit PLUS application, accept award, complete PLUS Master Promissory Note, complete PLUS Entrance Counseling (if required).

Renewal Policy: Submit FAFSA annually. Available October 1. Submit new application each academic year. Subject to credit approval.

Independent graduate students only. Approval is based on credit. May require a credit-worthy cosigner. This is a separate loan if student needs funding in addition to the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan (up to cost of attendance after utilizing their maximum yearly limits) or if they have utilized their maximum lifetime limits of the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.
