George Metz

Dr. George W. Metz is the EdD Program Coordinator. He is the former Dean of the College of Education and Professor of Education at CSU. Metz also served as the Vice President for Enrollment Management for two years at Charleston Southern. Previously, he served as Division Chair, Director of Teacher Education and the Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA for Bluffton University, Bluffton, Ohio. He was a financial aid director at Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio, and has 16 years of teaching and administration experience in various private elementary and secondary schools in Maryland.

Metz is a member of the Tri-County Cradle to Career initiative and has served on both the Adult Learner Network and the Kindergarten Readiness subgroups. He also represented CSU on the Education Foundation of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce. Metz serves on two national committees for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and was selected as the South Carolina private university representative to the Council of Chief School Officers national network for transforming teacher education. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel) in Westminster, Maryland, and a Master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Maryland. He holds a doctorate in Higher Education from The University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio.

Metz is a native of Westernport, Maryland. He and his wife, Earlene, are residents of Summerville, South Carolina. The Metzes are members of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Summerville where he serves as Council President.
