Captain Letricia BaxleyAir Force Captain Letricia Baxley will be promoted to major at a ceremony on the campus of Charleston Southern University. The ceremony will be held on Friday, March 3 at 10 a.m.

Baxley, an assistant professor of aerospace studies in the Air Force ROTC program at CSU, is a 2007 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. She has also worked as a Military Training Officer and Intercollegiate Manager at the U.S. Air Force Academy Prep School and later served as a Human Factors and Test Analyst for the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center (AFOTEC).

The Air Force has taken her many places since then, including a 2013 deployment in Afghanistan as a Government Technical Product Representative. One year later, in 2014, she was recognized as Senior Company Grade Officer of the Year by the Air Force Strategic Warning & Surveillances Systems Division.

Baxley later returned to Charleston and was given a duty assignment to teach ROTC cadets. This satisfied two longtime desires to teach and mentor future leaders. At CSU, Baxley is responsible for recruiting and training students in the ROTC program. In addition, she instructs senior-level curriculum which covers National Security Studies.

She said with the promotion comes an increase in pay as well as increased responsibility. “Now,” she laughs, “people expect me to know things.”

Baxley’s husband, Jared, a C-17 pilot in the Air Force will attend the ceremony along with her father, who will make the trip from Oklahoma, and relatives from Georgia.

“It’s still surreal that I’ve been in the Air Force for 10 years,” she explained, “because this was never the plan.”

Baxley has also received a Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Bar.
