Chapel sermon focuses on forgiveness, future

Dr. Keith Shorter

CSU’s Chapel speaker spoke plainly and to the point. “Do you know how much God loves you” asked Dr. Keith Shorter. A pastor at Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Easley, SC, the past 21 years, Shorter is also now serving as the President of the S.C. Southern Baptist Convention. His message to the students was to quit worrying about what you’ve done or where you’ve been. “Once you face your failures, there is forgiveness in Jesus Christ.”

Look forward, encouraged Dr. Shorter, because “everything that God has in store for you is in your future--not your past.” We all have scars, some visible, some not. A scar is a wound that is healed. A scar can also be used in one’s ministry, but only if your eyes are fixed on what’s ahead, and not on what’s behind.
