CSU Hosts Law Enforcement Expo

Marketing and Communication

Charleston Southern University criminal justice students will have the opportunity to interact with law enforcement officials and the tools of the trade Wednesday, March 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Expo on campus. The public is also invited to attend.

In addition to exposing students to career opportunities, regional law enforcement officials will demonstrate equipment and conduct simulations. Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon will speak at 2 p.m. in Lightsey Chapel.

I think it is very important to not only teach students in a classroom setting about their potential careers but also allow them to get a firsthand look and speak to the people who do the job day in and day out, said Dr. Gary Metts, assistant professor of criminal justice. It also allows the student to see a wider variety of jobs associated with law enforcement. I hope by presenting this EXPO it will give students a better understanding of the occupation of a law enforcement officer from a local, state and federal level.

Dr. Jackie Fish, vice president for academic affairs, said, The number of agencies and commitment to bring their equipment and personnel to CSU affirms the credibility of our criminal justice undergraduate and graduate programs. We are grateful for our public safety officers and look forward to the opportunity to open our campus to Lowcountry residents.
