5 Keys to Student Success
Marketing and Communication // 06.29.2017
Charleston Southern University Dean of Students Clark Carter announced Fall 2017 Move-In Day will be held on Friday, August 18 (incoming freshman) and Saturday, August 19 (returning
students). Both days schedules will run from 8 a.m. until 12 noon.
Julie Alimpich, Director of Operations for Residence Life, will begin her fifth year at CSU this
fall. She has seen thousands of incoming freshman come and go and encourages new students
to “focus on what’s important and don’t lose sight of that.”
So, what is important? Alimpich pointed to these five keys:
- JESUS: Love is a concept we hold highly and He is the perfect example of a real person
who lived His life for others.
- GET YOUR EDUCATION: You (and your parents) have invested so much to get you to this point -- don’t waste
the opportunity. College is intended to be a challenge. Don’t be afraid of making
mistakes. We all do.
- YOU’RE AN ADULT: Navigating life without parents can be challenging and strange. It can also be rewarding
and awesome at the same time. Remember, it’s OK to ask for help. CSU offers free tutoring
through the Learning Center, Writing Center and Math Lab. Also available to all students: free, confidential counseling services.
- COLLEGE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT: Get to know your peers, professors and staff. Get involved, Try new things. Join
an intramural team, a club or an organization. Worship at Elevate on Thursday nights. Watch your classmates sing their hearts out in a musical. Yell
your lungs out at CSU sporting events. There’s something for everyone.
- THERE IS AN END: College is not the end-all, be-all, it merely prepares you for the rest of your
life which begins when you walk across that stage with diploma in hand.
“The only way they won’t succeed is if they don’t get involved,” added Tim Grant, Assistant Dean for Residence Life. “Our hope is that they come to know CSU as a loving, growing community.”
If you have questions about registration, residence life or campus life activities, please contact the Dean of Students office at your convenience. We will be happy to help you.
Classes begin Monday, August 21.
