The Public Health profession is rapidly growing, and can lead to careers in many of the fastest growing professions throughout the country. The rise of lifestyle-related illnesses, an unsustainable increase in health care costs, and the need for preventive medicine combine to create a pivotal and exciting time to become a Public Health professional.  In addition to earning your Bachelor of Science in Public Health, all Public Health majors at CSU are also eligible to become a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) upon graduation. The field of public health is a thriving industry, and you have chosen an important time to make a difference in the well-being of our communities, schools, and workplaces.

Our Public Health major will challenge and inspire you as you focus your undergraduate studies on:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs that proactively address community health challenges, prevent illness and disease, and increase quality of life
  • Educating individuals and communities on practicing and adopting healthy behaviors
  • Advocating for change that fosters health outcome improvements through promoting, implementing, and sustaining effective public health policy
  • Identifying the determinants of illness and disease and how they spread throughout populations
  • Applying economics to health care and its effect on society and the field of health sciences
  • Exploring theories of health behaviors and learning public health research methods
  • Discovering concepts of communicable and noncommunicable diseases throughout various stages of the life span with a focus on prevention
  • Gaining critical thinking skills needed to design and carry out effective health education programs in a variety of healthcare and community settings
  • Increasing cross-cultural communication and leadership skills to impact a global society
