About Andre Tavares

Ph.D. in Atomic and Molecular Physics from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro PUC-RJ (2015)

Dr. Andre Tavares received a B.S in Physics and a B.S in Medical Physics, both from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a M.S. in Atomic and Molecular Physics (Theoretical) and a Ph.D. in Atomic and Molecular Physics (Experimental) both from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ).

He worked in industry for several years as a Project Manager for Software Development at Wartsila Voyage Solutions. During this time, he managed a development team to create 3D environment for Maritime Simulation. Also, he worked several years as a consultant for radiation protection in hospitals and medical clinics where ionizing radiation is used.

He had the opportunity to teach undergrad and graduation courses of Radiobiology and Physics for Engineering, Biomedicine, Architecture and Construction Management.

He is currently an Assistant Professor of Physics at Charleston Southern University. He is involved in several professional societies including American Physical Society (APS) and Brazilian Society of Physics (SBF). He loves music and he is a green belt in Judo and blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Andre and his wife, Quezia, have been married for over 12 years. They have one child.

"Be able to teach physics in an environment where science and faith can be together and explained together is what brought me to CSU. As John Bevere wrote: “We are stewards and therefore can choose, at any time, to use our gifts in one of three ways: we can build a kingdom, we can build a career (ourselves) or we can neglect the gifts.” My question to you is: what are you doing with your gift? We at CSU potentialize the gifts that God gave to you for His glory and to help others. Let’s build a kingdom together."
