Monitoring Tropical Depression, soon-to-be TS Imelda
The Charleston Southern University Emergency Management Team continues to monitor the path and projected impacts of Tropical Depression Nine. According to the National Hurricane Center, TD Nine is forecasted to strengthen to Tropical Storm Imelda today. Its track shows the storm slowing down and stalling Tuesday, being pulled by the Category 5 Hurricane Humberto out at sea.
If trends continue, impacts are greatly reduced for the South Carolina Lowcountry. The Charleston area could see 2-4 inches of rain through Wednesday, with rip currents, rough surf, and some beach erosion along the coast.
As of now, CSU will remain on its current operating schedule. Though we do not anticipate significant impact, should localized flooding conditions occur, employees will work with their immediate supervisors to determine appropriate next steps and work arrangements. Likewise, students are encouraged to communicate with their professors to develop a plan that prioritizes safety while maintaining continuity in coursework and academic responsibilities.
We will continue to alert the campus of decisions that ensure the safety of our campus family. Important updates will be sent via campuswide email, with urgent releases also communicated via BucAlert, the website, and social media as necessary.
