Ph.D. Admissions
The Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision (CES) is a terminal degree that prepares graduates to become counselor educators, researchers, supervisors, and leaders — integrating advanced scholarship with a Christian worldview.
Admissions Process
The following requirements must be met to be eligible to apply for the program:
Step 1: Review Application Requirements
- Master’s degree from a CACREP-accredited counseling program (or completion of missing content)
- Minimum 3.5 GPA in graduate coursework (submit all transcripts)
- State counseling licensure (or eligibility)
- Minimum of 2 years post-master’s counseling experience
- Resume/CV
- Three letters of recommendation (professor, professional colleague, and pastor/spiritual mentor)
- Two writing samples including a Professional Goals & Program Fit Essay and a Faith Integration Philosophy Essay

For those invited, a virtual group interview with CSU Counseling Faculty, including a 10–15 min teaching presentation
Step 4: Acceptance Requirements
Detailed instructions on how to complete the process will be communicated to candidates upon acceptance.
