The Charleston Southern University Emergency Management Team continues to monitor the path and projected impacts of Tropical Storm Nicole. The storm briefly became a Category 1 hurricane as it made landfall in eastern Florida this morning but weakened to a tropical storm very soon after. Its path has moved more northwest, and it will gradually weaken to a tropical depression as it makes its way up through Georgia and South Carolina late this evening and into Friday morning. Tropical storm force gusts up to 40-50 mph are expected along with rain bands this afternoon and tonight.
CSU will remain on its current operating schedule for Thursday and Friday; however, evening on-campus classes after 6 p.m. will be cancelled today (Thursday). Important updates will be sent via campuswide email, with urgent releases also communicated via BucAlert (the campus emergency notification system), the website, and social media as necessary.
Stay safe, Bucs!
