College of Nursing and Allied Health

The CSU College of Nursing and Allied Health offers degree programs in health promotion, bachelor of science in nursing, an online RN-BSN degree program and an online master of science in nursing that focuses on preparing nurse educators. The nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and is a member of the National League for Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

The College of Nursing and Allied Health has a 96 percent six-year average pass rate on the national exam required to receive a license to practice (National Council Licensure Examination). Dr. Tara Hulsey, dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health, says this is the highest six-year pass rate of all accredited BSN programs in the state of South Carolina.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Institute of Medicine report is calling for 80 percent of the nation’s nurses to have a minimum of a bachelor of science in nursing by 2020. The Charleston Southern nursing program is helping to train nurses holding two-year degrees through the RN-BSN program.

The College of Nursing and Allied Health is not only adding a 16,100-square-foot addition to its building but also expanded enrollment from admitting 40 students a year to 60 students a year in fall 2012.

The building expansion, expected to be completed by fall 2013, provides space for skills teaching labs, a Home Health Suite teaching lab, an interactive space for nursing students and additional classrooms and faculty offices.
