CSU makes Giving Day history with more than $1 million raised

By Jenna Johnson | April 18, 2022

History was made on Wednesday for Charleston Southern University when the college raised more than $1 million in 24 hours during its annual Giving Day.

Gifts from over 400 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of Charleston Southern totaled an extraordinary $1,003,632.05. Previously, the highest amount raised in 24 hours was in 2021 with $238,000.

“CSU Giving Day was an exciting day full of divine surprises and special support from the CSU community,” said Dr. Dondi Costin, president. “The monetary gifts have real and lasting impact on CSU students and prepares them in their pursuit of significant lives.”

Donors had the option to support several areas of need for CSU, including the CSU Annual Scholarship Fund, Athletics, Academic Programs, and Special Projects as part of the Limitless Campaign such as the Convocation Center and the Dewey Center for Chaplaincy. Several supporters inspired others to give through special donor challenges as well. The Whitfield Family matched all gifts made up to $100,000, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Brantley matched new Board of Visitor scholarship program gifts up to $10,000, while faculty and staff encouraged departments to give through various initiatives.
