Mary Kate McDonald
Instructor of Biology
About Mary Kate McDonald
Mary Kate McDonald came to CSU as an adjunct professor in 2024, and has been a full-time Instructor of Biology since Fall of 2025. She earned her bachelor's degree in Biology with a Wildlife emphasis, and an MS in Biology from Charleston Southern University. During her studies, she found her passion for STEM education working as a microbiology lab assistant and then graduate assistant, and later working as a high school math and biology teacher. She and her husband are Charleston locals, each with a passion for science, spending time outdoors, and live music, all fueled by their love of Christ and His people.
"I chose CSU because it gives me the unique opportunity to be involved in both the academic success and the spiritual formation of my students. To be able to talk openly about my faith as my biology classes explore the intricacies of creation, as well as having the opportunity to speak with my students at a personal level in office hours has been a true gift!"
Signature Experiences
Her areas of interest include management of CSU's microbiology lab and discussing study habits and techniques with students.
