Charleston County School District (CCSD) and Charleston Southern University (CSU) announced on Wednesday, June 18 the launch of a new dual enrollment initiative for high school students—the CSU-CCSD Collegiate Pathways Program. Piloting at three locations this Fall, the initiative is designed to increase access to college-level coursework for North Charleston High School, R.B. Stall High School and St. John’s High School students.

“We are grateful for our partnership with CSU that will expand opportunities for our students,” said CCSD Superintendent Anita Huggins. “This initiative not only allows them to earn college credit while still in high school but also empowers them to take charge of their academic journey and future success. It’s a proud moment for our district and a big win for our students and families.”

Instruction for all sites will be delivered virtually with a CCSD staff member present to provide supervision and academic support. At Stall High and North Charleston High, the program will give 15-20 eligible juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn transferable college credit and fulfill South Carolina’s College Readiness requirement—an important graduation benchmark. To qualify, students must have at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA and complete a formal application process.

The Collegiate Pathways Program will begin at St. John’s High with a cohort of 15-20 9th grade students.

Tuition for the program will be fully covered by CCSD, with only a small participation fee required.

“Charleston Southern University is thrilled to announce this new partnership with Charleston County School District, a collaboration that is dedicated to providing exceptional educational opportunities for students,” said VP for Enrollment Dr. Anthony Turner. “This program will offer students not only dual enrollment, but direct admissions, and a variety of other opportunities currently in development. We are unwavering in our commitment to enhancing students’ educational experiences and providing them with the necessary resources to success and achieve their dreams.”
