How to understand the difference between a tropical storm watch and warning

By Jan Joslin | September 28, 2022

What is a tropical storm? According to the National Weather Service, a tropical storm has sustained winds between 39 and 73 miles per hour.

Along with wind, there is the possibility of significant rain and possible flooding if you are located in a flood-prone area.

Tropical Storm Watch: conditions are favorable for a tropical storm to develop in your area. It’s a good time to evaluate your shelter plans and your emergency supplies.

Tropical Storm Warning: the possibility of a tropical storm hitting your area within the next 36 hours is probable.

Follow the National Weather Service and your local meteorologists for updated information.
