Tankersley named dean of CSU College of Health Sciences
Charleston Southern University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Janet B. Tankersley as dean of the College of Health Sciences. She has been serving as interim dean since June of this year.
Tankersley came to Charleston Southern in 2021 as a professor and associate program director for the Department of Physical Therapy. She was promoted to chair of the department in 2024.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Janet Tankersley as dean of the College of Health Sciences. In her service as chair of the department of physical therapy and recently as interim dean of the College of Health Sciences, she has displayed academic and professional leadership. Her outstanding academic preparation, extensive experience in medical education, and her emphasis on missions work will be invaluable to our students preparing to enter the medical field.”
A Board-Certified Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy, Tankersley has extensive experience as a university administrator, professor, researcher, practitioner, and in international and local mission work.
“The Lowcountry is outgrowing its health care workforce, and behind that gap, real people are waiting for care. Our students are answering a calling to meet them there, and at Charleston Southern they learn to do it as an act of faith and service, not just a profession. Leading alongside this faculty is the honor of my career, and I cannot wait to see what we build together.”
Provost Dr. Michael Wilder said, “I am grateful for Dr. Tankersley’s deep commitment to our Christian mission, proven record of servant leadership, and passion for preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. She will strengthen CSU’s role as an innovative leader in health sciences education as we continue to expand our program offerings.”
Wilder added, “After conducting a national search resulting in highly qualified applicants, Dr. Tankersley stood out.”
Tankersley holds a Doctor of Philosophy in pediatric science from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Still University, a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from the Medical College of Georgia.
