Athletic Training students win quiz bowl

By CSU Media | February 26, 2018

Charleston Southern University Athletic Training Program students won the 2018 South Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association Quiz Bowl on Feb. 16.

The CSU team competed against other South Carolina professional athletic training programs, including the University of South Carolina, Winthrop University and Erskine College.

The Quiz Bowl team consisted of four third-year undergraduate athletic training students: Amberle Phillips of Summerville, Rebekkah Scott of Beaufort, Kasi Ziegler of North Charleston and alternate Cheryl Blaxton of Inman. The win gives the CSU team the option to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association Quiz Bowl in Maryland in May.

Brian Smith, assistant professor of athletic training/kinesiology and director of the athletic training program, said, “The win helps solidify the fact that the CSU Athletic Training Program is an excellent program that is committed to the preparation of servant leaders who excel in the field of athletic training.”

The CSU Athletic Training Program is in its final year as an undergraduate program and has successfully made a degree level change to the Master of Athletic Training. CSU’s Master of Athletic Training is the first and only graduate level athletic training program in the state of South Carolina.
