BSN Application

The following courses are the pre-nursing prerequisites for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Charleston Southern University and must be completed or currently enrolled prior to applying. For consideration into the nursing program, students are only allowed one retake in two of the pre-nursing courses.

• English 111 or 112 (3 credits)
• Math 105 or higher (3 credits)
• Chemistry 110 or higher (4 credits)
• Biology 226 Human Anatomy & Physiology I with lab (4 credits)
• Biology 227 Human Anatomy & Physiology II with lab (4 credits)
• Biology 220 Microbiology with lab (4 credits)
• Psychology (3 credits)
• Nursing 104 or approved Pathophysiology course (3 credits)

All math and science prerequisites must be completed within 5 years at time of application. Pathophysiology course must be completed within 3 years at time of application. Must have a GPA of 2.9 or higher in all prerequisite courses. Must achieve a grade of “C” or higher in all prerequisite courses.

For transfer students only - Official transcripts from all previous schools must be on file with the CSU Registrar by 5:00 p.m. on the Tuesday following Charleston Southern University’s finals week.

If accepted into the College of Nursing, students will receive (via email) a compliance checklist. Evidence of the following checklist items must be uploaded into CastleBranch by the due date prior to beginning 200 level nursing courses:

1. Level of health and ability necessary to perform essential functions of nursing care. Reasonable accommodations will be made for some disabilities. However, independent performance is expected in several areas including: observation skills, ability to communicate, ability to deliver physical care and perform technical procedures and ability to function in quickly changing environments and stressful situations. The use of service animals in the clinical setting is dependent upon the approval of the clinical agency partners. Health Forms will be forwarded for completion by a health care provider.
2. Completion of all required immunizations and titers (delineated on Health Form) including Hepatitis B
3. Completion of a TB test within 3 months prior to enrollment in nursing courses
4. Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association (BLS, Health Care Provider)
5. Personal Health insurance (Medishare programs do not qualify)
6. Professional liability insurance (information will be forwarded)
7. Criminal Background Check
8. Negative Drug Screen

Failure to fully complete and upload these items by the due date will result in the student being unenrolled from their 200 level nursing courses. An alternate applicant will be notified and enrolled.
