Two alumni were part of a Network + Bootcamp hosted by Charleston Southern and partner, AOC Palmetto Roost, during the summer. The week-long camp prepared participants to take the CompTIA Network + certification.

N’dia Thomas receives an award from USC’s division of law enforcement and safety.

Guest speakers included Derick Beckwith ’08, director of engineering at Soteria, and N’dia Thomas ’16, a security analyst for the University of South Carolina.

Thomas recently received the inaugural USC Division of Law Enforcement and Safety’s Community Partner Award. Thomas said, “This award recognizes my contributions and assistance with various cases over the past few years—specifically a major one involving child exploitation that led to an arrest.”

Dr. Valerie Sessions, affiliate professor of computer science, said AOC Palmetto Roost sponsors the logistics for the event. “Our dear friend, George Wenchel, donates money for events such as this, making them totally free,” said Sessions. Wenchel established a scholarship at CSU in memory of his wife, Rosemary Wenchel. Rosemary was in the field of cybersecurity and was an inspiration to CSU computer science students.
