Mapping out study spots

By Madelyn White | April 25, 2025

As the end of the semester is here, and finals are near, studying might become a difficult task. Charleston Southern University has plenty of resources for studying both on and off-campus.

Whether wanting a short, quick study session, studying in between classes, or sessions where being close to home is better, many options are located at and around CSU.

On the second floor of the Student Center, the Buc Stop offers a quiet place to study in the mornings with various types of seating for optimal productivity.

Littlejohn Parlor, located between Women’s North and South, offers comfortable couches or high-top tables. Tip: This location is great for study groups!

On the first floor of the Whitfield Center for Christian Leadership, there are cushioned chairs and natural light which allow for a comfortable study session.

The second floor of the science building offers many study spots, both indoor and outdoor. Indoor coaches offer study spots with air-conditioned views of campus. The balconies allow for a spot away from people, with a breath of fresh air.

Other outdoor on-campus study spots include the tables located outside the dining hall and Chick-fil-A, and the Reflection Pond, which offers a place to observe nature while being productive.

New this semester, the Rivers Library has opened its balcony to allow for a shaded study spot during the day as the balcony closes at sunset.

CSU is located between three different counties, offering plenty of off-campus studying options.

Bald Monkey Beanery, a veteran owned and operated coffee shop, is in Goose Creek. It has dine-in options as well as outdoor patio seating. It accepts cards, wireless pay, and provides free Wi-Fi to those visiting.

BKeDSHoP offers a few tables for dine-in and has locations in Summerville, Charleston, and Mt. Pleasant. The store accepts cards and Apple pay and opens as early as 7 a.m., offering vegan food options on the menu.

Great Harvest Bakery & Cafe, located in North Charleston, offers dine-in and outdoor seating while providing free Wi-Fi and a private parking lot.

Located 1.5 miles away from campus, North Charleston Wannamaker County Park offers plenty of options for studying with an entry fee of $2 per person.

The park allows outdoor study, shaded or in the sun, and has multiple tables, fields and shelters. The park also offers a snack bar, paved and unpaved paths, disc golf course and sand volleyball nets for anyone in need of a quick break.

Thirty minutes away is Folly Beach, a great spot to enjoy the beach landscape while studying for finals and preparing for next semester.

Studying is already stressful and choosing where to study shouldn’t be. Take advantage of CSU’s prime location and explore your temporary home, while investing in your future.
