COVID-19 Update from the President

By President Dondi Costin | April 7, 2021

All semester we have had the goal to make our way to the first of May—which is the day our 2021 graduates walk across the stage on Buccaneer Field. Though we may have limited guest tickets, physical distancing, and masked faces, it will be our first “normal” graduation experience since 2019. We have also invited our 2020 grads back for an in-person ceremony on Friday, April 30. I personally look forward to sharing in each special moment on stage with air high fives and smiling eyes.

As the semester ends and finals week approaches at warp speed, remain steadfast in preparation, perseverance, and prayer. Our COVID numbers continue to stay low because of God’s faithfulness and your commitment to the BUCSAFE Pledge. Thank you for doing whatever it takes to finish this last lap. We’re almost home.

Our Numbers

Here are our numbers as of April 6, 2021:

  • TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN ISOLATION: 10
Of these 10 students, 0 reside on campus, 10 reside off campus, and 5 are confirmed positive.
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN QUARANTINE: 10
Of these 10 students, 5 reside on campus, 5 reside off campus.
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN ISOLATION: 4 (4 confirmed positive)
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN QUARANTINE: 1

ISOLATION is reserved for actively symptomatic or known positive cases, and QUARANTINE is reserved for those who have been identified as a close contact of someone who is positive or who has symptoms. People in QUARANTINE are NOT ill – we are simply watching them to ensure they do not become symptomatic.

Mask Reminder

To protect the health and safety of our CSU family, please note that masks are required at all times while using the library and all other on-campus facilities.

Vaccine Availability

Interested in making a COVID-19 vaccination appointment? Local pharmacies have had available appointments this week for anyone over the age of 16. Check out all available locations at scdhec.gov/vaxlocator or call 1-866-365-8110.

Stay #BUCSAFE

Anyone teaching, learning, or working on campus should complete the LiveSafe screening each day. Make it a part of your morning routine before you leave the house—some set a recurring weekday alarm on their phones as a reminder!

Remember, you may reach out to the University Pandemic Task Force at covid19@csuniv.edu with questions or concerns. This email address is monitored Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Any emails received after 5 p.m. on Friday will be addressed on Monday.

Stay safe, stay focused, stay healthy, and stay faithful to the Lord and His provision as we work together to continue enjoying a healthy CSU! As always, let’s spread the Word, not the virus.
