Charleston Southern University broke ground for an additional health science building on Monday, January 28, 2019. The 13,272-square-foot building is an expansion to the first health science building (built in 2017 and opened in 2018) to accommodate the growing health science programs at CSU, including the future doctor of physical therapy.

“The expansion allows CSU to continue growing our rigorous health science programs and prepare graduates with advanced skills as they serve the Lowcountry and beyond,” said Dr. Scott Yarbrough, assistant vice president for academic affairs for compliance and student success. “Initially the expansion can help relieve the current need for more science classrooms and eventually the building will house the planned Physical Therapy program.”

The building expansion will include:

  • 54-student orthopedic physical therapy lab
  • 27-student physical therapy lab
  • Research lab
  • Six debrief/study rooms
  • 13 faculty offices
  • Student lounge

“This building project is yet another example of CSU’s innovative program offerings. In the last year, we began a Physician Assistant program and our first doctoral program – both in very high demand,” CSU President Dondi Costin said. “The momentum continues as we develop graduate and doctoral level programs for prospective students who want to receive higher education with a deeper purpose. Here we grow again.”

CSU expects to complete the project by the end of December 2019. The expansion is designed by LS3P is being built by Trident Construction. For more information on CSU’s current health science programs, go to charlestonsouthern.edu/academics.
