Charleston Southern University mourns the passing of Larry T. Driggers, a faithful servant leader, trustee, devoted supporter, and beloved member of the CSU family, who went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday.

Larry generously invested his time, wisdom, and resources to help Charleston Southern University thrive. He was serving in his second term on the CSU Board of Trustees at the time of his death. Larry’s commitment to CSU was evident in his genuine care for students, faculty, staff, and the mission of the university. Larry will be remembered for his biblical wisdom, kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering faith.

A respected business leader and owner of Larry T. Driggers Construction, Larry lived out his faith through service and generosity. Alongside his wife, Sallie, they established the Driggers/Schutz Family Scholarship, honoring the lives and legacies of those they loved deeply—Larry’s mother, Dorothy D. Driggers; their son, Thomas “Tad” A. Driggers; and Sallie’s parents, Frank Abbott and Eddie Lou Garvin. Through this endowed scholarship and years of faithful support, Larry and Sallie created a lasting impact for generations of students. CSU President B. Keith Faulkner shared, “Larry Driggers exemplified what it means to lead with a servant heart. His generosity, humility, and steadfast faith shaped Charleston Southern University in ways that will endure far beyond his years of service. We are profoundly grateful for his life, his leadership, and his love for CSU. I have no doubts that he heard, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’ when he entered Heaven.”

Larry is survived by his wife, Sallie, daughter Ramey, son Jacob, grandchildren, and a wide community of friends, colleagues, and students whose lives were touched by his compassion and commitment. The CSU family extends its deepest condolences to his loved ones during this time of grief but praise God in knowing that Larry is with our Lord for eternity.

We give thanks for Larry T. Driggers’ life and legacy—a legacy of faith, generosity, and enduring love for Charleston Southern University. To extend condolences, Larry’s family will receive visitors from noon to 1 p.m. followed by a service in celebration of his life at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 at Highland Park Baptist Church in Hanahan, SC.
