Dr. Hipp joined the department of counseling at Charleston Southern University in 2022 as a remote assistant professor. Also, he is the clinical director for counseling practicum and internship students. He integrates his clinical knowledge into each class he teaches to connect textbook information to real world experiences to promote student professional identity development.

He has worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina since 2013. He has counseling experience working with a wide range of populations including group home children, high school students, couples and families, university students, and individuals experiencing homelessness with severe mental illness. He specializes in marriage, couples and family counseling, sexual problems, and anxiety related symptoms.

Dr. Hipp’s dissertation research explored the impact of technology use (technoference) on relationship and sexual satisfaction of young adult couples, using dyadic data analysis. His research results support growing evidence of technoference negatively correlating to relationship satisfaction of both partners and found support for technoference negatively correlating to one partner’s sexual satisfaction. His current research interests include variables involved in the transition period from premarital to newlywed couple status, relationship dynamics of couples and the systems that influence them, and technoference.

Your Purpose. Our Mission.

I appreciate the Christian foundations of the university that provide me an opportunity to expound on Christian ideals within an academic setting. I think religion is an important aspect of what makes the university an exceptional place for me to create a collaborative environment founded in Christian values. Charleston Southern University has a strong foundation in Charleston which provides a rich culture for students to learn and develop into contributing members of society.
