Cole Jeffrey

Cole Jeffrey was born and raised in Denton, Texas. He received his PhD in English Literature from the University of North Texas in 2017. Dr. Jeffrey researches the relationship between philosophy, theology, and literature during the early modern era and how it shaped literary representations of beauty and ugliness. He is especially interested in writers like William Shakespeare, John Milton, John Donne, Martin Luther, and John Calvin. His article “‘Here Is Beauty Changed to Ugly Whoredom’: Calvinist Theology and Neoplatonic Aesthetics in The Changeling,” was published in the Spring 2019 edition of Renaissance Drama. He is currently writing a book about Calvinism’s influence on early modern literature. When Dr. Jeffrey is not teaching or writing, he enjoys watching old movies, reading mystery novels, eating cheese, and exploring Charleston.
