Kistler

Eric Kistler is the new director of Charleston Southern University’s Rivers Library effective July 1. He most recently served as Associate Librarian for Collection Management of the Ehrhorn Law Library at Liberty University.

Having worked in the academic library world in a Christian environment, Kistler was drawn to Charleston Southern and the chance to help shape the minds of young people going into the world. He is excited about the opportunity to work with all disciplines and with undergraduate as well as graduate students.

Kistler said, “The library is an essential part of the education process.” He believes the library serves as more than a warehouse for preserving and making available our cultural history. It is a place where researchers and learners honor the past as they create the future.

He is committed to providing access to information and service to students and faculty members. In a rapidly changing technical environment, Kistler said there is actually a trend among younger people to print preference. In an age of Google and social media, Kistler hopes to remind students that the information is not always trustworthy. He seeks to train students to be critical thinkers and consumers of information.
