Bachelor of Science (BS), Biomedical Science

Students in the Biomedical Science degree will engage in an integrated study of biological issues related to health and medicine. This will include an in-depth study of God’s design of the human body as well as the environment in which humans and animals live. The degree provides students with incomparable skills in growing and testing bacteria, maintaining sterile environments, growing mammalian cells along with the microscopy techniques required to view cell structure and physiology. The major also includes modern biotechnology such as PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, CRISPR, etc.

Students will benefit from small class sizes and individual attention from faculty. CSU maintains a variety of faculty led research projects that are open to student participation. These projects lead to student presentations at professional society meetings, publications in peer reviewed journals, and awards at research competitions.

This major has a defined, required sequence of biology, chemistry, math and physics courses necessary to prepare for careers in this field. The program also includes the addition of 13 credits of Biology courses tailored to the student’s interest.

CSU features a state-of-the-art science facility, including a microbiology hub comparable to hospital labs and modern genetics, cell, and molecular laboratories designed for advanced research and hands-on learning.

The College of Science and Mathematics ensures through its curricula and course offerings that students in all majors demonstrate an understanding of the continuing role of science and mathematics in human progress.
