Your Future in Law

The Bachelor of Arts in pre-law and legal studies is a pre-professional degree for students interested in pursuing law school and a career in the legal profession. This degree develops the skills and abilities pre-law students need to be competitive in the law school admissions process and establish a solid foundation for successful study of the law. As a result, this degree focuses on courses that will teach and develop the following skills and abilities: critical thinking, effective communication, and basic knowledge of the law and legal system.

In order to ensure the development of these skills, the courses students complete to obtain this degree come from a variety of majors at Charleston Southern University. For example, students learn critical thinking skills from courses developed in Christian studies, political science and history. Students choose to learn about law and legal concepts from courses offered in criminal justice and political science. In order to improve communication skills, students are exposed to courses focused on both verbal and written skills from communications, theater and English. All of these skills are necessary for those who aspire to work in the legal profession.

As a result, the pre-law and legal studies program allows students to explore courses from a variety of degrees rather than being confined to the selection of one major and one minor. This results in a greater range of relevant courses related to the student’s interests that challenges students to hone the skills necessary to compete in the law school admissions process and pave the way for law school success.

Charleston Southern University’s accreditation can be found here.

I can honestly say that the political science department at Charleston Southern University gave me a topnotch education. My professors provided me with a strong foundation, which helped springboard my career from intern all the way to Regional Director in a U.S. Senator’s office. I highly recommend this program to any student thinking about studying political science.
