COVID-19 Update from the President

By President Dondi Costin | February 10, 2021

Thank you for your diligent response to the rise in COVID numbers on campus. Your commitment to our policies and procedures this past week helped reduce the number of people in isolation and quarantine. This success is a tremendous blessing for all of us. I thank God for you.

While we are not yet where we want to be, we hope that focused attention on public health best practices (both on and off campus) will help these numbers drop even more so we can continue increasing student engagement opportunities. As hard as it is to believe, we’ll be halfway through February on Sunday. Although this particular milestone won’t be the only thing I celebrate on Sunday (Valentine’s Day), it’s certainly on my list as we make our way to the first of May

Our Numbers

Here are our numbers as of February 9, 2021:

  • TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN ISOLATION: 28
Of these 28 students, 2 reside on campus, 26 reside off campus.
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN QUARANTINE: 23
Of these 23 students, 3 reside on campus, 20 reside off campus.
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN ISOLATION: 6
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN QUARANTINE: 16

As a reminder, ISOLATION is reserved for actively symptomatic or known positive cases, and QUARANTINE is reserved for those who have been identified as a close contact of someone who is positive or who has symptoms. People in QUARANTINE are NOT ill – we are simply watching them to ensure they do not become symptomatic.

Student Life

This Friday night, February 12, is our first Sweet 16 event of the semester! We are excited to see many of our students at Strike Night and feel confident that if this event is a success, we will be able to continue to finalize plans for our other Sweet 16 events this semester. Students, please do your part to stay BUCSAFE so we can move forward with exciting events this spring. You can find a complete list of Student Life events in the BUCNATION app.

Stay #BUCSAFE

Remember, you can always reach out to the University Pandemic Task Force with questions or concerns. You can contact them directly by emailing covid19@csuniv.edu. This email address is monitored Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Any emails received after 5 p.m. on Friday will be addressed on Monday.

Stay safe, stay focused, stay healthy, and stay faithful to the Lord and His provision as we work together to continue enjoying a healthy CSU! As always, let’s spread the Word, not the virus.
