Meet Dr. Timothy “Tim” Griffin

Dr. Timothy “Tim” Griffin is Charleston Southern’s new associate vice president for spiritual life and campus pastor.

Griffin comes to CSU from Liberty University where he was most recently executive director of the pastoral counseling and care office. He served as director of the LU shepherd office from 2012-2025.

Griffin said he became interested in college ministry when he noticed in his work with adult church members that he was hearing the same problems repeatedly and thought we need to train people at a younger age. He said his vision at Charleston Southern is that every student will experience authentic Christian community.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Rev. Dr. Tim Griffin to Charleston Southern University. Dr. Griffin brings a remarkable combination of pastoral leadership, student care, and organizational excellence developed through years of service in higher education and ministry. We are confident his passion for spiritual formation and Christ-centered leadership will have a lasting impact on our students, faculty, and campus community.”

As executive director of Liberty’s pastoral counseling and care office Griffin oversaw a team who focused on the spiritual and practical well-being of residential and online students through one-on-one interactions and small groups.

Griffin was operations pastor for Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Virginia, from 2002-2012. He was a special projects producer with Cable News Network in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1991-2001.

He holds a PhD in Christian leadership and an MA in religion and church ministry from Liberty University. He completed a Master of Professional Studies in media management at Syracuse University and a BA in broadcast journalism at Louisiana State University.
