Charleston Southern University bestowed the honorary doctorate of business administration upon Frank Bullard, market president for BB&T, at commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 5 at North Charleston Coliseum.

Bullard has served on the CSU Board of Trustees and has been a member of the CSU Board of Visitors Scholarship Program since 2008. He served as commencement guest speaker at Charleston Southern’s 2013 ceremony.

President Jairy C. Hunter Jr. said, “Frank has been on our Board of Trustees and has contributed significantly to our Strategic Planning process.  His experiences and relationships are important for the university in keeping us connected with the Greater Charleston area.  His role on the Board of Visitors is helping the university in resource development, and he is especially supportive of student scholarships.”

Bullard began his career with BB&T 37 years ago this month. He began his career in BB&T’s Management Development Program in 1981 and has served in retail and commercial banking roles in both Carolinas. He was City Executive in Morehead City, N.C., before coming to South Carolina in 1998 as retail banking manager for BB&T’s Coastal region. He was Regional President for that region in Florence, S.C., before moving to Charleston.

When Bullard was named to the Board of Trustees, he was inspired by Charleston Southern’s sense of family, purpose, and above all, Dr. Hunter’s visionary leadership. In addition, he said, “Involvement in the Board of Visitors is a great way to leverage your resources. An investment in future generations is key to ensuring a better tomorrow for all of us.”

Bullard is active in the community, serving as a member of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce; executive board, Tri-County United Way; trustee, Trident Technical College Foundation; member, Trident CEO Council; member, MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital Steering Committee; chair, 2018-2019 Trident United Way Campaign, and member, Charleston Rotary Club. Recently, he was nominated for the Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center’s Ethics in Business Award.

Bullard holds a BS degree in business administration from East Carolina University and is a graduate of the LSU School of Banking of the South. He and his wife, Nancy, have three sons.
