COVID-19 Update from the President

By President Dondi Costin | February 24, 2021

On Monday, we announced our intent to resume a normal collegiate experience this fall. I know we’re all anxiously awaiting the day that we can toss the mask, give high fives, and do normal life things. Let’s pray and plan for it together. It’s hard to believe that midterms are fast approaching in a fourth COVID semester—nearly one year since our world turned upside down. Watch the following video as we reflect upon, respond to, and ride out the continued waves of the pandemic. I continue to be grateful for your resilience and our Lord’s faithfulness. Stay BUCSAFE and let’s continue making our way to the first of May

Our Numbers

Here are our numbers as of February 23, 2021:

  • TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN ISOLATION: 12
Of these 12 students, 1 resides on campus, 11 reside off campus, and 9 are confirmed positive.
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN QUARANTINE: 19
Of these 19 students, 1 resides on campus, 18 reside off campus.
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN ISOLATION: 3 (2 confirmed positive)
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN QUARANTINE: 18

As a reminder, ISOLATION is reserved for actively symptomatic or known positive cases, and QUARANTINE is reserved for those who have been identified as a close contact of someone who is positive or who has symptoms. People in QUARANTINE are NOT ill – we are simply watching them to ensure they do not become symptomatic.

Graduation

We are excited to offer an in-person, traditional Commencement to both the 2020 and 2021 classes this spring! In order to offer a meaningful and safe graduation, two ceremonies are planned for April 30th and May 1st on CSU’s campus at Buccaneer Field. For the benefit of our students and families, this will be a ticketed event and we expect to limit capacity to no more than two guests per graduate.

August 2019, December 2019, and May 2020 grads are invited to participate on April 30th at 6 p.m. Alumni must RSVP by March 4th with the registrar’s office. Those from the August 2020, December 2020, and May 2021 classes will walk on May 1st at 6 p.m. Eligible graduates will receive more information in the coming days and weeks ahead.
