Starting your path to becoming an athletic trainer

Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. The first professional master’s program in the state of South Carolina, Charleston Southern University’s athletic training program prepares students to become well-rounded, clinically sound, professional certified athletic trainers.

This program provides diverse, authentic and immersive clinical experiences, with biblical truths infused in the curriculum. The rigorous didactic and clinical education program spans 24 months with a strong emphasis in evidence-based clinical examination and diagnosis of injuries and illness sustained by physically active patients. In addition, the coursework and clinical experiences provide future athletic trainers with the knowledge, skills and abilities to function as an integral member of the healthcare team.

The athletic training program’s mission is to provide an educational setting and opportunities that demonstrate dedication to the preparation of servant leaders that excel in the field of athletic training, grounded on an evidence-based approach. Initially accredited in 2003, the athletic training program has a history of excellence on the Board of Certification (BOC) exam (see recent retention and pass rates) and in the profession of athletic training with alumni practicing across the United States (see employment rate).

Accreditation:

The AT program is accredited by the CAATE, and received continued accreditation in 2018 through 2028.
