Homecoming 2019 - American Flag

All current students (on campus and online) must submit a Military Benefits Authorization Form EACH semester they are using their benefits.

**Delay in completing the Military Benefits Authorization Form could delay your payments.**

Classes that are not required for a student’s major cannot be reported to the VA for payment; schedules will be checked to ensure they are reportable to the VA to count toward benefits.

Yellow Ribbon Program

Charleston Southern University is proud to be a Yellow Ribbon school. Students are automatically eligible for Yellow Ribbon funding if they receive Chapter 33 Post-9/11® GI Bill benefits at the 100% level. The Yellow Ribbon funds will pay any additional costs for tuition above the yearly academic cap for MOST programs at Charleston Southern. Yellow Ribbon funding is capped at $12, 000.00 for Chapter 33 beneficiaries in the Aeronautics program.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

All student receiving VA education benefits, are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress according to Charleston Southern University’s academic progress standards. See the policy here.

“Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is defined as a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. All students will be subject to the academic standing process unless they completely withdraw from the University prior to the last day to receive a grade of W, published on the Academic Calendar.

A student with an academic standing that prohibits course registration, will not have their benefits certified through the VA. If a student is placed on academic probation through Charleston Southern University, our policy is that the student contact the Military Services Office to be advised on the steps to that they must take in order to avoid being placed on Veteran Benefit Denial (VBD). While academic probation is NOT reported to the VA, the law requires educational assistance benefits for eligible persons be discontinued when the student ceases to make satisfactory progress and all benefit payments will be discontinued. When a student is suspended for failing to maintain the school’s prescribed SAP, the student’s VA entitlement will be terminated.
