Academics

Welcome to the English Language Institute! Our program is uniquely designed to prepare students for the academic environment at Charleston Southern University. After completion of the highest level, students will be ready to pursue a university degree at CSU or elsewhere, or jump right into the career of their choice in an English speaking country. Students interested in pursuing degree programs at Charleston Southern University may apply to our undergraduate and graduate programs without English language proficiency scores. Please see Conditional Acceptance for more information.

CSU’s IEP includes 18 hours of instruction per week with additional optional courses. We serve students from around the world and are ready to help you with the U.S. student visa process!

Global Flex includes an optional free weekly Global Zoom Hangout for all students enrolled in the program. This forum provides a relaxed space to interact with your fellow students, raise questions and concerns, and encourage each other to stay focused and motivated. The Center for Global Education staff will host the Global Zoom Hangout. They are ready to answer questions or provide tips for accessing CSU resources you need to be successful.

If you are only applying to the Intensive English Program, click here. On the admission data page select “I plan to be a non-degree seeking student” and choose “Intensive English Program” for the degree type.

The Intensive English Program requires a convenient online application for acceptance. The Director of International Student Services will facilitate additional documentation for enrollment and a U.S. visa for interested students.

For more information, contact the Center for Global Education at 843-863-7382 or international@csuniv.edu.

Students who have scored a 60 or higher on the TOEFL may take one CSU course per semester for academic credit at the 100-200 level.

This course may either be online or on campus as long as the course does not conflict with the ELI instructional times.
